About expedition

This is SP5APW's expedition to Lakeba Island (OC-095). The callsign assigned to the expedition by TAF is 3D2JK.

Lakeba Island is the rarest IOTA reference in Fiji belonging to the top 10% of the world-wide most wanted references. The last activation of OC-095 was carried out over 20 years ago, in 2004 and currently this reference is in demand by 87% of the IOTA chasers

This is my first solo expedition to such a rare IOTA island. I usually travel to tropical islands for vacation. Those islands are relatively easy to access and do not require a large budget. In this case, the travel budget is much higher than ever before. Therefore, I would appreciate donations to help cover the extraordinary expenses of the expedition.

I plan to be QRV for six days from April 17 to 22, 2026, being active on the higher HF bands: 10-20 m and 6 m. On HF, I will operate FT8 and SSB while on 6 m, I will primarily operate FT8. My goal is to manage at least 2,500 QSOs on HF and 200 QSOs on 6 m band.

Due to my very limited baggage allowance, I will be using 100 W of power. This might change if I find someone to lend me a very lightweight PA.

There is no internet on the island except Starlink which I probably will not be able to use. Therefore, all logs will be uploaded after leaving Lakeba.

My QTH will be located in the village of Tubou, on south coast of the island. So, beaming directions to NA, EU and JA will pass through the island. However, the highest hills are about 200 m high, so I don't think they should block the transmission.
